Dr. Eugene Vortsman is an attending physician, the clinical director of Addiction Medicine and Disease Management for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and an associate professor. As chair of the hospital wide Pain Committee, his responsibilities include improving the implementation of alternative approaches for pain management, including medicinal cannabis, psychedelic education, and holistic therapies and medications. He is dedicated to advancing the understanding and safe use of psychedelics in medical settings, emphasizing education and harm reduction to ensure patient safety and well-being. He works to educate others on the cultural, legal, and scientific history of various psychedelic medicines and their potential to address the growing mental and pain health crisis in the United States. In this capacity, he has fostered an environment for interprofessional and multidisciplinary collaboration to improve overall care for patients while in the hospital and post-discharge.
