Dr. Desjardins is a dentist scientist trained as a clinical pharmacologist.  He has been a leader in academic health centers and in the pharmaceutical and drug development industries.  He served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at UMDNJ now Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and as Sr. VP for Medical Affairs and Clinical Research at Wyeth Consumer Healthcare and Pfizer Consumer Healthcare.  He has been active in development and refinement of the Dental Impaction Pain Model and the Post-bunionectomy Pain Model.  Both of those models are in active use in drug development today.
