Dr. Pablo Alvarez, MD, MSc, is a critical care physician at Hospital México, Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social, in San José, Costa Rica, and a faculty member in the Department of Physiology at the School of Medicine, University of Costa Rica. He holds medical and graduate training in internal medicine, critical care, and biomedical sciences, and is currently completing additional postgraduate studies in industrial engineering.
His clinical and academic interests center on intensive care medicine, postoperative pain management, and the integration of engineering methodologies into healthcare optimization. He is actively involved in research on multimodal analgesic strategies, with a focus on the translational application of sodium channel blockade (NaV1.8) in perioperative settings. Dr. Alvarez also contributes to physiology education and leads initiatives in clinical data analysis and patient outcomes research.
He regularly collaborates on institutional studies aimed at improving critical care delivery and has participated in national and international academic conferences.
